A glimpse into the sights of Itsukushima Shrine, junior Ryley Agsalda sits on the lookout of Miyajima Island’s torri gates off of the Hiroshima prefecture. Students were able to walk out to the torri gates since the island was at low tide; if it was high tide the gate would appear as if it was floating on top of the ocean.

5evers

I was going to write one of the usual tangents that I usually do, but on second thought? I thought you deserve something much better.

It’s the end of the year. I hate to sound dramatic, but it’s true. For seniors, that means our high school careers are finally coming to a close. Whether you realize that or not doesn’t matter, unless one of you lucky fellows has the ability to wind back the clock (and if that is the case, please don’t? I’d rather not repeat high school again…one time is enough). Anyway, for my final column, I’m talking about “5evers,” people.

See, if you are one of those people thinking, “What in the world is this girl talking about?” then you are in the same shoes I was in a couple of weeks ago. Given my age, 17 years old to be clear, I have gone living my entire life not knowing a “5ever.” Yes, it’s a thing (or to others it was a thing). Anyway, I think this is the perfect opportunity to put my new word of the day to use.

High school is not forever. It is actually only four years. The only reason it may seem like an eternity is because we lose track of time. Yes, most of that time is taken up by hours of homework and projects set forth by our teachers, but that’s not the reason why. See, the memories we share and the friends we make are the reason. These are the kind of things that aren’t forever. They are 5evers. (I really think I did not apply that word correctly…oh well.) What we do from now till then will pass us by, but the memories and laughs that we share as friends and as a family will slow life down just a bit for us.

High school isn’t forever, nor is it 5ever either. It’s four years you get to laugh, make friends, cry a bit, stress a bit and then eat it all off. That’s what high school is all about. (Technically, I think that’s what everything should be about.) So have fun for those of you coming back. On the other hand, to all the seniors, high five! We’ve got college to look forward to (sometimes that can be a 5ever).

See you later Mililani High School. (Don’t cry.)
