A glimpse into the sights of Itsukushima Shrine, junior Ryley Agsalda sits on the lookout of Miyajima Island’s torri gates off of the Hiroshima prefecture. Students were able to walk out to the torri gates since the island was at low tide; if it was high tide the gate would appear as if it was floating on top of the ocean.

Food is Good

bored
By Ireland Castillo

Bored already? That was fast. Did you like the music? I hope you did, but I take no offense if you didn’t. We all have our tastes. Talking about tastes, this weeks subject: food.

I like food. You like food (hopefully). Everyone likes food. Good food, bad food, junk food, healthy food. (Wow? I almost sound like Dr. Seus.). In all honesty, I am not the best food expert because I hate vegetables. You may be thinking to yourself, Ireland Castillo don’t be lying in a newspaper. But I’m not (plus lying is bad). Let me tell you a short story.

Once upon a time, forget that. It’s a funny story. So if you weren’t aware I am in the MHS Marching Band (or should I say was?) And if you didn’t know, marching band has practices every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon (shocking). Each practice starts at 5 p.m. and ends around 9ish (ish as in ishing around 9:30ish). One day, I didn’t have the chance to eat dinner before practice becasue I got caught up in “teenage” stuff (what is that?). Anyway I wasn’t going to eat dinner at 10 p.m. because of homework so I decided to do what I think was the best option at that time. I ate two strawberry pop-tarts, and when I say two I mean four. How UN-healthy of me. I mean who eats four pop tarts?! (If you’re asking why, two were “snacks” and the other two were “dinner”) Don’t be like me.

So if you’re bored and have nothing else to do, don’t eat four strawberry pop-tarts (laugh here). Anyway like any other person we’re always hungry. What makes it worse is the fact that we’re teenagers and we don’t believe in the whole “three meals a day thing.” Especially when it comes down to eating breakfast. Why do we all hate on breakfast…?

So instead of telling you what to eat because I’m pretty sure you are either a real health buff or a real junkie (haha), I have a few tips for all you people to keep in mind.

1. Don’t eat pop-tarts for dinner.

Need I explain? Anyway remember to eat dinner. There is ALWAYS time for food. Always. I know homework can be a real time consumer, but don’t cheat on your stomach. Your stomach didn’t do anything bad to you (I hope so.).

2. Breakfast in not overrated

Take the time to eat something in the morning. I can tell you nothing is more embarrassing when you’re taking a test in period one and your stomach is making that gurgle-rumbling sound in a very, very quiet classroom. So wake up just a tad bit earlier and eat a waffle or a pancake or something.

3. School lunch isn’t that bad

I’m not a fan of school lunch either (I mean that line though), but I don’t think it hurts to eat something. Maybe a snack or a granola bar or some kind of fruit. So eat, I think your stomach deserves something to eat after four periods.

Here’s to eating. By the way, I hope you’re not reading this in class? You get hungry when you’re reading about food. See you next time.
