HISTORY IN D.C. During the summer, MHS students flew to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National History Day (NHD) competition from June 14 to 18. While Junior Sarah Igarashi (front row, left) was the only student from MHS to place, taking 12th out of 28 finalists in the documentary category, all who attended were able to experience the history surrounding the American Capitol. Their historic tour consisted of multiple stops such as the Holocaust Museum, the National History Museum, Mount Vernon and the White House. “I learned a lot of things that I can’t really put into words because it was more about experiencing our nation’s history kind of thing, because we went on a lot of historical tours about the U.S.,” said Igarashi. “Just going on that particular tour and that experience is completely unique and probably a once in a lifetime thing.”
