Fellowship Camp is held twice every school year over a span of three days. During this past camp, held at Malekahana Beach Park from Oct. 2 to the 4, members engaged in a variety of games and activities, giving everyone a chance to have fun.
“I would describe camp as the highlight of most people’s years, it’s the place where you just get to let loose and go all out and just really be yourself,” explained Fellowship Club Vice President Johnathon Palompo. Returning club members welcomed many new faces and shared laughs during the three days spent at camp.
“The purpose is just to reach out to other people, we invite their friends to camp there’s games, lots of games. The officers give messages, there’s small group discussion stuff and yeah it’s an opportunity where we can get together and talk about issues and what not,” said Fellowship Club Adviser Jason Tamura.
In the beginning of camp, every member is assigned to a team which they will spend their weekend with trying to win the activities planned by the leaders. The Great Grace is a game played every year, which consists of a compilation of many activities placed around different areas of the camp. The objective of the Great Grace is to be the first team to complete all of these games. “It’s a really good bonding experience for the teams and it’s really fun for the leaders to watch everyone enjoy what they prepared for everyone,” said Palompo.
Through the many games and activities held at camp, members were able to bond with one another and become better acquainted with the club. These bonds allowed the club to welcome new members and embrace them with moral support and friendship. “Fellowship Club is basically an opportunity for students in the high school to learn not only more about the word of God but to fellowship with one another, get involved through Bible studies, camps and different events that we have,” said Fellowship Club President Tammy Kanei.
Although Fellowship Club is a Christian based club it is open to those from all walks of life with a variety of faiths. “We’re not one of those cliques that just shun everybody away. We’re always open to having new friends and making sure everyone is taken care of,” said Palompo. The club’s variety of activities has helped in acquiring new club members and creating lasting friendships.
Fall camp provided the opportunity for members to participate in many activities, make new friends and enjoy the company of one another. Although the fall camp has come to an end, another camp will be held over spring break.
