On May 24, the Brown Bags district winners went on to compete for a spot in the state competition at the Blaisdell Center. With bands, solo singers, dance groups and variety acts, people from all over the island came together for a shot at the same title. The competition was intense, yet Strangers with Kandy and Kids with Attitude represented MHS and took home the awards for best band and best dance crew in the state. “What matters is that we made a statement. We broke the barrier that for so many years prevented non-reggae bands to win this competition. Hopefully from this, other bands will be more willing and less deterred to participate in these community events,” said lead singer Senior Rhys Ragasa. Through hard work and preparation, both groups strive to inspire other bands and groups to push for their dreams and never give up.
