     Despite the chaos, 2020 was a huge year for games. With the release of smash hit titles such as Among Us, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Genshin Impact, everyone is excited to see what waits in 2021- a.k.a. COVID-19’s sequel. This article lists some of the most-awaited games of 2021, including an honorable mentions section for games that barely missed the cut.

  1. Hollow Knight: Silksong

     When thinking of indie games, one might think of Hollow Knight. Released in 2017, Hollow Knight is a platformer action-adventure game known for its difficulty and amazing 2D art. You play as a bug named Needle and explore the depths of an underground world filled with mysterious creatures and monsters. Famous for its open-world exploration and tricky fights, fans are anxious for its anticipated sequel: Hollow Knight: Silksong. Like its precedent, Silksong will be a platformer action-adventure, following the events of the original Hollow Knight game. It will be released in 2021 on Windows PC, Mac and Linux, and Nintendo Switch.

  1. Back 4 Blood

     During The Game Awards 2020 live stream held on December 10, Turtle Rock and Warner Bros. officially announced Back 4 Blood and has since become a highly anticipated title for 2021. Back 4 Blood is a multiplayer survival horror game that brings cooperative first-person shooters into a post-apocalyptic setting. Like it’s prequel, Left 4 Dead, the game incorporates many elements of horror and cooperation. The game takes place in a warzone swarmed by zombie-like creatures, and like any traditional zombie game, it is the player’s job to reclaim the world and save the human race. It will release on June 18, 2021 on Playstation, Xbox, and Windows PC.

  1. Far Cry 6

     Far Cry is a series that many have come to love, and with the announcement of Far Cry 6, fans are ecstatic to get their hands on the newest sequel. Far Cry 6 is a first-person shooter action-adventure game that uses makeshift weapons and vehicles. The game takes place in a tropical paradise “frozen in time,” and it is the player’s job to topple the tyrannical regime to restore a nation to its former glory. Though initially scheduled for release on February 18, 2021, Ubisoft has delayed the release due to COVID-19 until sometime later in 2021. It will be released on Windows PC, Xbox, Playstation, and Stadia.

  1. God of War: Ragnarok 

     The ninth installation in the God of War series, known as God of War: Ragnarok, is scheduled to release sometime in 2021. Loosely based on Norse mythology, the game will be set in Norway and feature gods such as Kratos and his son, Atreus. Featuring an interactive story open-world genre, the previous game’s premise surrounds the protagonist’s adventure to deliver his wife’s ashes to the tallest peak of the nine realms. Developed by Santa Monica Studios and Sony Interactive Entertainment, the game is set to release on PlayStation 5.

  1. Resident Evil 8

     Announced at the PlayStation 5 release on January 21st, Resident Evil 8 has become one of the most highly anticipated games in 2021, placing second on this list. As a long-running series, Resident Evil is famous for its thrilling survival horror aspects and action-packed gameplay. Set a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 8 puts the player into the shoes of its protagonist, Chris Redfield, as he seeks answers to a mysterious village. Capcom announced that Resident Evil 8 is set to release on May 7, 2021 on PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows PC. 

  1. Halo Infinite

     At the top of this list is the long-awaited sequel to the Halo series, Halo Infinite. Halo Infinite is a first-person shooter game developed by 343 Industries and Microsoft that follows the journey of Master Chief. Master Chief is the SPARTAN-II commander of the UNC Naval Special Warfare Division, and the story focuses on slaying aliens in a sci-fi world of dangers. It features both a multiplayer and singleplayer mode, allowing a wider range of gameplay options. Halo Infinite is set to release sometime in 2021 on Xbox and Windows PC.
