What happens when an underworld legend becomes a domestic house husband? Follow Immortal Tatsu, a former Japanese mafia boss, as he packs cute bentos to support his wife’s career. The smash hit comedy slice of life manga illustrated and written by Kousuke Oono, The Way of the Househusband is getting an anime adaptation that will premiere on Netflix in 2021.

The Way of the Househusband is a casual slice-of-life manga about Tatsu: an infamous yakuza (or Japanese mafia) boss known and feared for his brutality. But one day, he vanished for an unknown reason, leaving stories of his fierce crimes in his absence.

The manga follows Tatsu’s daily chores and misadventures with his former yakuza associates and rivals. While maintaining the pace of a typical slice of life anime, The Way of the Househusband depicts Tatsu in a variety of comedic scenarios in which his intimidating past is juxtaposed with his domestic housework, creating ironic interactions with various characters.

Having sold over 1.2 million copies in print, The Way of the Househusband has made a splash in the manga industry, and in 2020, the manga has been adapted into a live-action television drama on Nippon TV.  Now, many excited fans await the 2021 anime premiere. The easy pace and comedic irony of the series has attracted many fans in the past and won several awards, such as the best Pixiv Comedy Series and Best Humor Publication from the Eisner Rewards.

While there is no official anime premiere trailer yet, the manga created a live-action trailer in 2019 to celebrate 1 million copies sold in print. This live-action trailer gives a taste of what the series is about, depicting one of the earlier chapters of the manga when Tatsu creates a bento for his wife.
