Students were able to walk out to the torri gates since the island was at low tide; if it was high tide the gate would appear as if it was floating on top of the ocean.

At the beginning of this school year, MHS welcomed new faculty, students and even a few returning staff members, such as Assistant Principal Komarey Moss. A returning faculty member that started as a data coordinator in March 2011. Moss’ background knowledge as a data coordinator helped get her to the position she is in today.

“I really like this new administrative role. I think that it can be challenging at times, stressful at times as well, but it has a lot of rewards in the end. It also allows me to help make decisions that help students and teachers be good at their jobs, and also students to make the most of their high school or education career,” said Moss.

Although this is a new position for Moss, the relationships between Moss and fellow co-workers remained in tact. “I loved working with her because she is the kind of person that, because of her background, was able to make things easier. (For example), with things that I was currently doing she showed me different ways to do them and how to do them faster. From the start we just kind of meshed and it was nice. She just simplified my life,” said Assistant Principal Robin Miller.

Returning with a new set of skills, Moss and fellow faculty members are excited to see what she can do for both staff and students alike. “She brings with her a lot of energy and a huge skill set. Along with that she also has a great connection with the students. I’m very much looking forward to her helping us improve our school,” Principal Fred Murphy said. Moss added, “I initially started out at this school and I would say working at the complex area level gives you a much more broader view of what’s happening across the State, as well as within the complex area. I believe that is a different perspective I can bring to this school.”

Moss is looking forward to these upcoming years she plans on working here at MHS. She is also staying optimistic about her new administrative role. “This is a sought-out school, we get G.E.’s from all over the place and I think one thing that has always been a part of the culture of this school is towards improving the school. We constantly have this growth mindset, we never work and then stop. For us it’s like how can we do it bigger and better,” said Moss.

Despite the new challenges that Moss will face in her new administrative role, she plans on making her first year back at MHS a memorable one.
