FROM DISTRICT TO STATES, ISAC ADVANCES IN SCIENCE FAIR. Freshman Shakson Isac placed first at the Central Oahu District Science and Engineering Fair on Feb. 13 at Moanalua High School. His project, entitled “The Effect of Bacterial Metabolism on the Redox-potential of Microbial Fuel Cells,” tested how bacteria could metabolize different substrates and create electricity from different types of fuel cells. Isac will move on to the Hawaii State Science Fair and Engineering Fair at the Hawaii Convention Center from March 28 to 30, as well as the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Ariz., from May 8 to 13. “(I’m) kind of nervous, since this is my first time going there and not really knowing anything, but I am pretty sure I will have a great experience,” said Isac.
